The ‘ha’ and ‘na’ series are the most used letters in the Hindi language. In this write up this symbol👃 indicates the nasal sound we need to add to the words.

The most useful words with these letters are Haa👃 हाँ and nahi👃नहीं . If we observe these closely we can see a dot on the letters. Whenever there is a dot on the letter or a moon shaped curve with a dot on the letter, a nasal sound is added to the letter. हाँ is almost like haan , but instead of saying the n sound completely we should stop with adding a nasal sound to haa👃. Similarly we pronounce the last part of nahi👃नहीं with a nasal sound because there is a dot at the top of the last letter.
When someone asks us, do you want this or do you like this etc. we can answer with a yes or no. Haa👃 हाँ means yes and naa ना and nahi👃 नहीं means no.
For all the yes/no questions we can use Haa👃 हाँ and naa ना or nahi👃 नहीं. When we ask such a question to someone they will nod their head and say हाँ or नहीं. So we will be able to understand whether they are saying yes or no to our question.
Another frequent use of ha is hai है . Most of the Hindi sentences end with a ha series letter.
It’s good – ye achcha hai – ये अच्छा है।
It’s ok – ye teek hai – ये ठीक है।
This is new – ye naya hai – ये नया है।
This is old – ye purana hai – ये पुराना है।
He is a good boy – vo achcha ladka hai – वह अच्छा लड़का है।
She is a good girl – vo achchi ladki hai – वह अच्छी लड़की है।
Where is the hotel? – hotel kahaa👃 hai? – होटल कहाँ है?
What is for breakfast – nashta me kya hai? – नाश्ता में क्या है?
Now let’s look at the letters in the ha ह series. The shape of the letter may appear to you as the letter c hung from a hook.

You are going. – tum jaa rahe ho. – तुम जा रहे हो।
He is going. – vo jaa raha hai. – वह जा रहा है।
She is going. – vo jaa rahi hai. – वह जा रही है।
They are going. – ve jaa rahe👃 hai👃. – वे जा रहें हैं।
You (with respect) are going. – aap rahe👃 hai👃. – आप जा रहें हैं।
We can turn these into negative sentences by adding nahi👃 नहीं with it. Use the nasal sound wherever you see a dot on the Hindi letter.
mai nahi jaa raha / rahi hoon. – मैं नहीं जा रहा / रही हूँ।
vo nahi jaa raha / rahi hai. – वह नहीं जा रहा / रही है।
tum nahi jaa rahe ho. – तुम नहीं जा रहे हो।
ve/aap nahi jaa rahe hai. – वे/ आप नहीं जा रहें हैं।
Sometimes for emphasis we repeat the word na which indicates no.
Not at all brother, I am not going.
na bhayi na, mai nahi jaa rahi hoon. – न भाई न, मैं नहीं जा रहीं हूँ।
